PBH Blood Drive Will Start Today for Cambridge Area

Volunteers will start seeking solicitations today in Phillips Brooks House's annual fall Blood Drive, J. Phillip DeCaro '57, co-chairman of the Drives Committee, said last night.

Over 200 solicitors will seek pledges from students in the College, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Radcliffe, Episcopal Theological School, Lesley College, and the Longy School of Music. Actual donations will be made during the week beginning Dec. 5, DeCaro said.

Throughout the College the Drive will be conducted on an individual, door-to-door basis, according to DeCaro. None of the 150 undergraduate volunteers will do any of the soliciting outside of the College, he said.

Since the spring drive of 1953, donations have dropped more than a third, according to co-chairman Pete K. Gunness '57. Last term's drive collected only 950 pints, compared to the 1953 total of 1500.

This is the first time Longy and E.T.S. have taken part in PBH's drive. They and the other participating schools will conduct their own appeals under the supervision of the Drives Committee, DeCaro said. They will also send over volunteers to receive pledges at the GSAS.

All blood donors and their families are guaranteed blood in Massachusetts and in any hospital where the Red Cross has a regional blood bank, DeCaro noted.
