Yardling Skaters Top Melrose, 15-1

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Wing Bob Clearly and defense man John Copeland each scored the hat trick as the freshman hockey team routed Melrose High, 15 to 1, yesterday on the Watson rink. Nine of the Yardling goals came in the last period, two within eight seconds of each other.

The freshmen, led by the first line, completely outplayed Melrose but were unable to capitalize on many of their scoring chances in the first two periods. Melrose, however, lacked even such opportunities, presenting goalie Dick Hubbell with only nine saves during the game.

Cleary has Two Assists

Cleary, who switched to wing on the first line with Bob McVey and Lyle Guttu, also contributed two assists. Copeland scored all his three goals on hard shots from just inside the blue line.

Center Ed Harding and wing Alex Kalil both tallied twice, with Harding adding three assists. The other Yardling goals were scored by Jack Hennessy, John Simpson, Woody Harris, Bob McVey, and Bob Owen.

The Yardlings will be after their third straight triumph Saturday when they meet the Northeastern freshmen on the Watson rink.
