Even the man who waved the encore signs had a good time at Harvard '29 night at the Boston Pops yesterday.
Regular conductor Arthur Fiedler took command after dinner in Symphony Hall and started the music pouring with "Up The Street," by R. G. Morse '96.
Then violin soloist Albert Lind '29 executed Massenet's "Meditation from "Thais'" so well that he was forced to return for another number.
But it was Leroy Anderson '29 who brought the second day of 25th reunion to a boisterous climax. Taking the baton after the intermission, he led "Fair Harvard" and nine of his own arrangements, including two encores. When he tried to sit down and rest between numbers, his classmates' applause refused to allow it.
Anderson conducted his "Harvard Sketches," including themes on the Lowell House Bells, A. Freshman in Harvard Square, Widener Reading Room, and the 25th Reunion.
"The Typewriter" was performed with the appropriate accessory and candles which not only jibed at Liberace but unintentionally commemorated Anderson's lately completed set of four children.
Of course, "Wintergreen for President" completed the concert and sent the celebrating audience lilting back to Cambridge.
During the day two symposia came before and after the luncheon at the Union, Tours, punch parties, swimming, and other sports occupied reunion children, while the adults attended a memorial servise.
Today's activities center around the Essex County Club. Buses for adults and seniors begin leaving at 9 a.m. directly for the Club or via tours through Salem.
If golf, tennis, and baseball fail to occupy the reunioner at Essex, facilities will be ready for transportation to Singing Beach and for Gloucester and Rockport tours. Those who didn't reserve places on Kingfisher cruises will find buses prepared to take them from Essex to the Manchester Yacht Club for short boat trips.
Cocktails and lunch and cocktails and supper will be served at the Essex County Club.
Juniors and intermediate offspring leave the Union at 9:15 a.m. to picnic for the day at Magnolia Beach, after which the juniors will return to Cambridge for a magic show and the intermediates will join their seniors in Essex square dancing.
In case of New England weather, the juniors will return to Cambridge for indoor sports while the older crowd will find movies and square dancing at the Manchester High School Auditorium.
