'Green Feather' Pins Will Be Distributed If 20 Sign Application

The Green Feather organization may distribute its anti-McCarthy pins and literature in the dining halls if enough undergraduate interest is shown, Dean Watson said last night.

Watson said the Green Feather group did not have to be recognized as an official undergraduate organization if its sole purpose can be achieved in a short time period. He said he would grant the group permission to sell the pins at cost if he was presented with a list of 20 undergraduates supporting the group.

Stephen S. Willoughby '54, 1G.Ed., one of the organizers of the group, told the CRIMSON last night that he had a list of 20 individuals which he would present to the Dean's Office today.

Watson said that flexibility must be allowed in cases like this. If the purpose of the group is merely to distribute the pins, he said he saw no reason why they could not do so without being recognized.

If the group wishes to become an official organization next fall, Watson continued, it many then make an application. The Faculty Committee on Undergraduate Organizations, which must approve the applications of all proposed groups, does not have a meeting scheduled until September.

Willoughby stated last week that if the group cannot secure permission to sell the pins, he would have it done through the House newstands or under the sponsorship of the Liberal Union.
