Official reports, released last night, show that the Crimson Key Society lost $600 on the Artists' Ball this year.
At the same time, Key President William D. Coakley '55 refused to say last night whether he will recommend that Key members continue presentation of the dance in the future. At its Wednesday night meeting, the Key heard a report on the dance, but there was no further action taken on the All-College Weekend.
Although Coakley is undecided about his recommendations concerning the Weekend, a group of Key members, who refused to be quoted, stated that they will definitely urge that the Key give up future Weekends.
First Dance Failure
Since 1950, when the Student Council asked the Key to present an All-College dance, the Society has always made a profit on the Saturday night function. This year, however, the Key encountered opposition from the Band, the Glee Club, and two House committees and incurred the loss on the dance.
Coakley said that one of the major factors in his decision about the future of the Weekend will be the question of how the Key's prestige has been affected by its sponsorship of the dance. If he feels that the College is opposed to the Key presenting the weekend, Coakley may urge that Key members abandon the dance.
