Baseball Team Opens Home Season Against Tufts Nine This Afternoon

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Rained out of its Saturday game at Brandies, a rested varsity nine opens the Crimson home baseball season in a 3:45 encounter with Tufts on Soldiers Field this afternoon. The Brandies game has been postponed, but a rescheduled date has not yet been set.

Andy Ward, who was slated to hurl against the Judges, will probably be on the mound today. Exactly a week ago he pitched the first four innings of a 9 to 2 win over M.I.T.

Ray Maesako, injured in that same MIT game, may now be able to return to his third base job. Otherwise, his alternate, Jim Rahul, who would have played at Brandeis, will take over.

The catching end of the battery is the only other question mark. George MacDonald was picked for Saturday's game and will probably be behind the plate against the Jumbos this afternoon. Other possibilities are Dick Clasby and Bing Crosby.

The double-play part of the infield seems well set. Ed Krinsky will start at shortstop, with Art Noyes on second and John Maher at first.

Captain Dick Scheer and sophomore Bill Cleary will take care of left and center fields, though that respective order is not guaranteed. Don Butters fills out the trio in right.

While today's game is the varsity's home opener, the team won't play its first Eastern Intercollegiate League contest until Thursday when it journeys to Annapolis to meet Navy. The squad's record stands at one win the one loss. One win and two losses were incurred though on the southern training trip.

The varsity's first season loss was to Boston University. The Terriers, rated the best in the area, edged Stuffy McInuis' squad, 3 to 1, last Wednesday.
