Radcliffe will allocate more money for scholarships next year, but will not have to raise tuition to obtain the additional funds, President Wilbur K. Jordan announced yesterday.
A 13.4 percent increase over last year's funds has raised the amount of available scholarship money to $83,000 next year, Dean of Instruction Wilma A. Kerby-Miller said. This is part of a four-year trend, she added. In 1950-1951, there was $47,000 in the scholarship fund.
The average assistance from regular funds was $330 this year and 23 percent of Radcliffe students are now receiving scholarship aid, Jordan said.
Three large gifts to the scholarship fund help account for the increase in funds this year: The Princess Artchil Gourielli Scholarship of $800 given by Helene Rubenstein, the Agnes M. Lindsay Trust of $4000, and a $1000 gift from Lucy B. Lemann.
