Despite Dave Alpers' blistering 48.5 anchor leg, the varsity mile relay team finished third in the IC4A Championships Saturday night in Madison Square Garden. Yale was the team winner, edging a surprising Boston University squad, 19 to 18 1/2.

The foursome of Jack Richards, Alan Howe, Renny Little, and Alpers, crossed the finish line two feet behind Princeton and a foot behind Colgate. The winning time was 3:21.5. The Crimson registered a 3:21.7.
