Fund Total Tops Half-Way Point In Divinity Drive

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Approximately $44,000 has been contributed to the Divinity School Endowment Fund since the announcement of John D. Rockefeller, Jr.'s $1,000,000 donation, vice-chairman Walter H. Trumbull '15 reported yesterday.

Trumbull's statement, in the form of a letter sent to the Divinity School's alumni, said that the Fund's total now has passed the half-way mark towards its goal of $5,000,000. To date donations to the drive amount to $2,544,000, including a $500,000 gift from the University. Trumbull expressed extreme pleasure with the Fund's progress thus far.

In another Divinity Fund development yesterday, new assignments in the drive's offices placed Trumbull in charge of funds from all the New England states except Rhode Island, which will now be covered by William H. Edwards. John L. O'Brien will remain chairman of the national drive.

Trumbull's letter also noted that 91 Divinity alumni had already contributed to the drive, although he had only recently solicited alumni contributions. Their donations have amounted to $8,875, he said.

Lamont Gift

After another $1,250,000 is raised, the drive will receive an additional $250,000 under the terms of the will of Mrs. Thomas Lamont. When the goal of $5,000,000 is reached, the Corporation will increase its contribution from the University's funds by another $500,000, Trumbull explained. With an already existing endowment of $1,000,000, the Divinity School will then have a total endowment of close to $7,000,000.
