A touring Oxford team will meet the Debate Council tonight at the Boston Harvard Club. Contrary to previous Council announcements, however, the schools will not argue as teams.
"We apparently misunderstood Oxford's letter," Ralph I. Petersberger, president of the Council, said last night. "They want to split up, with one man on each side of the question." Although the Harvard team was disappointed by this situation, the Oxford squad strongly approved. "Peter finds debating my side of the question distressing," Derek Bloom of Oxford said of his colleague, Peter Tapsel.
The debate topic is, "Resolved: That progress depends on the unreasonable man." Representing Harvard are George M. Fredrickson '56 and David A. Halporin '55.
Although the Debate Council lacked funds. The Harvard Club of Boston contributed $100 to cover the expenses of the Oxford team.
