The junior varsity basketball team defeated a Newport Officers Candidate School squad, 66 to 58, to open its season Saturday.

The Crimson's Larry Flaxman and Newport's Dick kazmaler, former Princeton all-American football player and Harvard B-School graduate, staged a close duel for scoring honors. Kazmaler scored 23 points, while Flaxman totaled 20, half of them from the foul line.

Coach Johnny Green's quintet, playing steady and at times expert basketball against a more experienced team, had little trouble maintaining a ten point margin through most of the game.
