Sophomors tailback Matt Botsford, who played two and a half games less than his uninjured opponents with nine-contest schedules, placed third in individual offense in the Ivy Group this fall, according to statistics released yesterday.

Botsford gained 456 yards rushing and 250 yards passing in 155 plays for a total of 706, only 54 yards behind Group leader Peto Kohut of Brown.

The varsity was fifth in the Ivy Group in total team offense and third in team defense. The Crimson gained 1453 yards on the ground but only 478 through the air--the smallest passing yardage in the Group--for a total of 1931 and a game average of 241.4.

An average of 256.6 yards was gained against the Crimson in each game.

The varsity's punting average of 29.8 yards in 45 attempts was seventh in the Group, ranking only above Yale's. In 29 attempts Botsford averaged 31.5 yards a kick.

The only other Crimson player to place among the leaders in Ivy Group statistics was sophomore fullback Tony Gianelly, who gained 332 yards rushing and ranks tenth in the league.
