Adams, Lowell Are Victors In House Football Openers

Lowell House won its first football game in three years yesterday afternoon by routing Dudley 26-0. A strong Adams eleven rolled over Winthrop by an identical score.

After taking the opening kickoff, Lowell marched down the field to score minutes later on a plunge by fullback Steve Anderson, a track man who is playing his first year of House football. A 20-yard end sweep by sophomore Ed Burlingame made it 12-0 before the half, and the outcome was never in doubt.

Dudley was handicapped in inexperience. Only two men, John Coyne and tackle Al Farbman, have played House football before this season. Leading their attack was adept sophomore quarterback Joe Martino, who weighs barely 130 pounds.

The strong Lowell line was held up at the ends by two veterans, Dan Dunahoe, who played in the all-star game last year, and John Green. Another standout was senior guard Dick Marzinksi, a J.V. player two years ago.

Winthrop Bows to Adams

Winthrop held off Adams for the first half, but fell before a three-touchdown assault in the second. The Gold Coasters scored early on an end sweep by junior Jim Donaghy, was played, J.V. football last year. In the second half, sophomore Phil Arena tallied on a spectacular 40-yard run, and Harold Levy bucked over for another Adams score soon afterwards.

Two sophomore backfield stars, quarterback Chris Hasiotis and fullback Frank Weller helped immeasurably in the Adams win. Hasiotis connected with end Joe Stern on a 40-yard touchdown pass for the final score of the game. Linebacker Pete Stern set up at least two of the Gold Coasters' touchdowns by interceptions.
