Pusey Flys to Reunion, Stays Only Five Hours

A still overwhelmed, but confident small-college President landed in Boston amid a mass of photographers and reporters yesterday and proceeded to disarm all observers. Nathan M. Pusey, replete with class of '28 cap, vest, and tie, seemed completely at case before as large an array of the press as he has probably ever seen.

Pusey's wife and three young children remained in the background, slightly awed by the continual calls of "Just one more" and "Wave." The Corporation's choice for the 24th Harvard President, however, was soon left alone with the reporters and held his own with little apparent trouble.

"Of course nothing is official yet, but I was very much surprised by all this," Pusey said. "The only thing I have done is to have always been interested in College education and the liberal arts--and of course students and their problems."

"I don't want to talk about such things as Red probes or policy until after everything is settled," Pusey continued. "After all, Mr. Conant is still President until September."

"No, I haven't met President Conant, ever," Pusey answered to a reporter. "But I heard him speak several times, and was introduced to him several years ago. I don't think he would remember me," he added.

Pusey did indicate that in the event the Overseers approve of the Corporation's action, he would travel to Cambridge early in August and begin "learning about what I have to do." A short vacation in July appears to be the only rest in store for the besieged Pusey family this summer, according to Mrs, Pusey.

The Lawrence College President was in Cambridge for only five hours, flying back late last night to deliver a commencement address in Wisconsin at 10 a.m. this morning. Two more addresses are scheduled for Pusey in his home state before he returns to Cambridge in time for Thursday's Commencement affairs. Mrs. Pusey and the three children, however, will remain here to carry on for the Class of '28's new leading celebrity.
