World Socialists Argue Capitalism In Debate Tonight

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The far-leftist World Socialist Party invades Emerson Hall tonight at 8 p.m. to question the value of American capitalism in a challenge debate with the Debate Council.

Council members at first refused to challenge, but changed their minds after learning the WSP was not on the Attorney General's subversive organization list. One member has refused to meet the strict Marxist group on any grounds.

Judges for tonight will be: Arthur Smithies, professor of Economics, Daniel S. Cheever, associate professor of Government and Allston Burr tutor in Winthrop House, and Arnold M. Soloway, instructor in Economics and Allston Burr tutor at Leverett.

Upholding American capitalism will be the Council's officers, President Gerald W. Gorman '54 and vice-president Richard A. Levin '54.

"Moral Obligation"

"Some members felt that fear of the likes of the Jenner Committee would endanger our drive for funds," Levin said last night. "But we decided that the HDC has a moral obligation to debate any issue that does not exceed the bounds of propriety."
