PBH Cabinet Will Continue Search To Fill Grad Post

Undergraduate leaders at Phillips Brooks House said last night that they were continuing to look for men to fill the House's Graduate Secretary post. The announcement came even though the PBH Committee had already recommended a theological student for the job.

Dean Willard L. Sperry of the Divinity School, present chairman of the Committee, said last Thursday that he had submitted the name of 27-year-old Cornelius D. Hastie '52 to the Corporation. Hastie is a first year student at Episcopal Theological Seminary.

The PBH Cabinet, composed of officers and committee chairmen, indicated that it might follow the alternative suggested to it by Sperry to deal directly with the Corporation if it was dissatisfied with the Committee's choice.

The Cabinet emphasized that it did not object to Hastie on personal grounds, but disapproved of breaking long PBH precedent of non-sectarianism.

The group indicated, however, that it would only approach the Corporation if it could find a non-denominational candidate as qualified as Hastie for the position. So far the Cabinet has not discovered a suitable man for the job.

Whatever choice the Cabinet makes will be definite by Monday, as the Corporation meets then.

Henry M. Silvera '51 was reported to be leading the list of men being sounded out by the Cabinet. Silvera was president of the Student Council when he was at the College.
