Lamont Library is adding a new covering to its Widener level floor this week. Phillip J. McNiff, assistant librarian in charge of Lamont, announced yesterday.
The old cork floor is being replaced with asphalt. This is in preparation for the installation of stacks on the level.
The two floors under Lamont, the Houghton and Widener levels, are connected by tunnel to the other two libraries and are used for storage. At present they have room for 500,000 books.
The newspaper collection in the stacks, will be reopened today or tomorrow.
