Colonel Candler Cobb, head of the New York City Selective Service System, yesterday said the Lubell twins, Jonathan W. and David L., will not have their draft deferments canceled immediately.
"As long as they are pursuing their academic work," Cobb said, "I see no reason to cancel their deferments."
W. Barton Leach, professor of Law, had written a letter to the Selective Service System demanding that the Lubells be taken into the armed services.
Cobb pointed out, however, that at the end of the academic year the Lubells' records will be examined to see if they should be drafted. This is merely the periodic examination which is normal procedure for all student deferments.
