"Russia does not want a third world war," said Rowmund Pilsudski, a member of the Polish Political Council, last night at a forum on "Can Eastern Europe Be Liberated?" sponsored by the United Nations Council.
He said that the reasons the Soviets do not want war are that "time is working for them," and that they like to use the Red Army as the final instrument of political conquest. "They prefer to use political infiltration rather than military aggression," he added.
Pilsudski said that it is not enough to drive the Russians out of Eastern Europe.
Bruce C. Hopper, associate professor of Government who also appeared, said, "If we start to liberate, we've got to carry it through even if it means World War Three." He stressed the importance of correctly timing all actions and of keeping alive hope for the people of eastern Europe.
