Group Studies Proctor Work, Advisory Plan

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Revision of the freshman proctorial system and its relation to the advising program may be recommended by a Student Council committee now investigating possible integration of the programs.

Randall W. Taylor '54, head of the committee, said last night that proctors are being interviewed now. Questionnaires have already been distributed to them.

The committee will formulate a report for the Student Council which will then be presented to the faculty. Serving under Tayler are James F. Meeker '56, Doyle B. Garrett '56, and John J. Desmond '56.

Problem of Overlapping

Problems the committee is dealing with include overlapping of the duties of proctors and advisers. Some proctors serve in both posts. Also under consideration is the amount of work in official, social, and athletic fields which should be demanded of proctors.

Tayler added that a heavy load on proctors has been noted.

The questionnaires include such queries as "Are you a freshman adviser?" and "How much help do you think you can be in a freshman guidance program?"

Yale System Combination

A combination proctor-adviser system as at Yale may be a workable improvement, Tayler said. Each proctor-adviser there is responsible for both advising and policing 20 students in their dormitories.

Tayler and his committee will meet early next week to draft a rough outline of their report. He said the group will confer with the freshman deans before submitting the report.
