Captain George McNair '53 will lead nine of his fellow fencers to New Haven today for the Eastern Intercollegiate fencing championships.
Entered in the tournament by Coach Edo Marion are: McNair, Lester Scherer and Phil Erard in the epee; Jan Jertsen, John Hamel, and Walton Rawls in the foil; Harry Ziel, Bob McConaughy, Bob Marcetta, and Dave Kenney in the saber.
Twelve colleges and universities are expected to compete in the tournament. Marion expects stiff competition, especially from the defending champion, New York University. The Violets shared saber honors with Columbia last year and were tops in the epee division. City College of New York took the foil team awards in 1952.
