Harold C. Hunt, superintendent of the Chicago schools system for the past six years, resigned yesterday to become Charles William Eliot Professor of Education at Harvard. The announcement was made yesterday afternoon by Francis Keppel '38, Dean of the Graduate School of Education.

Since June of 1947, Hunt has supervised Chicago's 417,000 students, 21,000 teachers and personnel, and an annual budget of $146,000,000. Before taking his Chicago position, Hunt had served seven years as superintendent of schools in Kansas City, Mo.

In his new position in the Graduate School of Education, Hunt will help train other educators and will prepare students for the degree of Doctor of Education.

"Dr. Hunt's long experience in educational administration . . . will be of great value in developing Harvard's program of providing professional training for the future leaders of the nation's schools," Dean Keppel noted. "The School of Education is proud to be able to include in its Faculty so distinguished a figure in American education."
