The Negro U.N. delegate out-distanced seven other proposed candidates, including Samuel Beer, professor of Government, Dean Wilbur Bender '27, Provost Paul H. Buck, McGeorge Bundy, associate professor of Government, Charles R. Cherington '35, professor of Government, John H. Finley, Jr. '25, professor of Greek Literature, and Dr. W. Barry Wood '32, head of the Department of Medicine at Washington University.
