Yardling Quintet Beats BU, 75-57

The '57 basketball team opened its season Saturday with an easy 75-57 win over the Boston University freshmen in the Indoor Athletic Building.

The Yardling five rolled up an early 27-15 lead and was never threatened. Both teams employed a man-to-man defense throughout the game.

High scorer for Coach Floyd Wilson's cagers was 6'4" center Bob Canty, Canty, a former Arlington High School star, hit for 14 points from the pivot.

Second high were guard Bob Delven and forward Red Long with 13 apiece. The other starters, guard Dick Hurley and forward Lou Lowenfels, hit for 11 and 5 points respectively.

43 Percent Average

Coach Wilson expressed surprise at the very high 43 percent shooting average of his squad.

In spite of the impressive, win Wilson said, "I feel that they are a bit behind the other teams I have coached and I won't be able to judge our prospects before January."

Wilson further stated, "I hesitate to name the individual stars of the team because I haven't had the chance to judge them under actual game pressure." He cleared the bench to give each of his players a chance to give each of his players a chance to show his ability.

The Yardlings will take on the freshman of Wesleyan Wednesday at Middle-town, Conn. After the game the team plans to hold a meeting to elect a captain for this season.
