Florida may replace Bermuda as the varsity lacrosse team's Christmas holiday destination, Coach Bruce Munro has announced.
The Intercollegiate Lacrosse Coaches' Association has invited the Crimson to participate in the third annual Forum Exhibition Games at Palm Beach from Dec. 22 to Jan. 4.
"Everything is up in the air," Munro said. "Officially we still are going to Bermuda. It all depends on the boys. I haven't gone over it with them yet." A meeting of the team will be held Monday afternoon.
The varsity to date has planned to tour Bermuda with Yale's lacrosse team from Dec. 26 through Jan. 4. The two teams intended to travel across the island, playing exhibition games with each other, Yale has also been invited to attend the Palm Beach Forum. What Yale does, Munro added, will not affect the Crimson's decision.
Yale Waits for Crimson
The Eli lacrosse coach, William Harkness, however, said last night that Yale will wait to see what the Crimson decides before setting its plans. Since only Harvard and Yale lacrosse teams were going to Bermuda, it would be pointless for either one to go alone, he said. "We would like to cooperate with Harvard," Harkness added.
Requests for funds to finance a Bermuda trip for the varsity have not been sent out as yet. Dean Robert B. Watson granted permission to solicit aid over two weeks ago.
The Palm Beach Forum is similar to a lacrosse clinic, Munro said. It offers coaching, games with invited and local teams, and finally an all-star Rebel-Yankee contest. Duke University's coach, W. S. Persons, chairman of the Forum Committee, wired the varsity an invitation.
Seeking a larger representation of Northern teams this year, the Forum Committee is making a concerted effort to draw schools from this side of the Mason-Dixon line.
The idea of holding a lacrosse Forum originated in the swimming Forum held annually at Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Though the golf and soccer teams had hoped to travel to Bermuda with the lacrosse team, the former has definitely decided not to go and the latter seems likely to follow suit. Yale had suggested that they accompany Eli teams to the island.
