JVs, Underdog Freshman Team Face Yale

Seek Repeat Victory; Backfield Revamped

Coach Bob Margarita sends his revamped Yardling football team out onto Walter Camp Field this afternoon at 2 p.m. to block the favored Bullpups' quest for freshman Big Three honors.

The Yardling coach will be matching an undefeated record and "the best backfield I've ever coached at Harvard" against what appears to be one of the best freshman teams over to represent Yale.

The Elis rate the favored position on the basis of their 25 to 14 shellacking of Princeton last week. Margarita's squad tied the same Tiger eleven, 6 to 6, two weeks ago.

Two weeks of experimenting since the Crimson-Princeton game have produced both backfield and line changes for the Yardlings and aroused speculation that the Crimson may open in a "T" today.

Abrahamian to Play

Margarita has apparently settled the year-long question of whether Jimmy Joslin or Mat Botsford would start at tailback. He has benched both men, and moved fullback Paul Abrahamian to the left halfback spot.

"Abrahamian has never played tailback before," Margarita reported yesterday, "but the past two weeks have proved the backfield combination of Abrahamian, Tony Gianelly, John Simourian, and Leo Daly the best we've got."

Fullback Gianelly and wingback Simourian have been first-string all season, but quarterback Leo Daly starts his first game for the Yardlings today.

The benching of former all-conference stars Joslin and Botsford, and the substitution of a new quarterback seems to add up to a "T" formation for the Crimson. In their last practice session the Yardlings ran from both the "T" and single wing.

In the line, injured Captain Ted Metropoulos is a doubtful starter at right guard. Dick Smith will probably replace him. The rest of the improving Crimson line remains unchanged.

Phil Haughey is at left end, Bob Wynne at left tackle, Charlie Papalia at left guard, and John Newell at center. On the right side, Dick Brickman opens at end and Pete Meister at tackle.

Leading the Elis will be former White Plains, N.Y., standout quarterback Dean Loucke. In front of him will be a Blue line captained by Bide Thomas and averaging 201 pounds from end to end.
