Ace running backs John Culver and Dick Clasby didn't scrimmage with the varsity football team yesterday, but no one was worrying about their absence.
"I'm resting them," Coach Lloyd Jordan explained after practice. The two worked out briefly before contact work, and then turned in.
Clasby was the leading ground gainer in the Ivy League last year.
The two other regular Crimson backs, quarterback Bob Hardy and wingback Bob Cowles saw plenty of action, however, as two varsity teams scrimmaged two JV elevens. Sammy Fyock took over at Clasby's tailback spot in the first team backfield: Brian Reynolds, Jordan's versatile halfback, replaced Culver at fullback.
Reynolds has thus seen service in every backfield position except quarterback in workouts this season.
Playing in the second varsity team backfield were Joe Conzelman at quarter, Dick Hoffman at tailback, Frank White at wingback, and Dexter Lewis and Bill Volmer at fullback.
The JV's again employed T formation plays to prepare the varsity for the season opener against Ohio University Saturday.
