Scientific Award To Honor Sarton, Founder of 'Isis'

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

George Sarton, professor of the History of Science, Emeritus, was honored recently at a testimonial dinner in Washington for his contributions to the study of the history of science.

At the dinner, the History of Science Society, sponsors of the dinner, announced that a George Sarton Prize will be set up to recognize outstanding achievement in the study of scientific history. The award will be in the form of a medal with Sarton's portrait engraved upon it.

Sarton retired last month from the editorship of the publication "Isis", which he founded in 1913. The magazine, an international review devoted to the history of science, publishes articles, book reviews, and a comprehensive annual bibliography of all works in the field.

I. Bernard Cohen '37, assistant professor of General Education and the History of Science, will succeed Sarton as editor-in-chief of "Isis." He previously served as managing editor of the review, issued under the auspices of the History of Science Society.
