Four Freshman Teams unbeaten at Mid-Year

While the Boston experts are busy trying to determine just exactly what is wrong with Harvard athletics, the freshman hockey, swimming, track, and basketball teams move into the second part of their seasons--all undefeated in intercollegiate and high school competition.

Six Wins Four Straight

Myles Huntington's hockey team has won four in a row, and has the best chance to finish the season unbeaten. Led by Bill Cleary, Jr., son of the referee, the Yardlings have beaten both the B.C. and B.U. freshmen, as well as Malden Catholic and St. marks. Captain Cleary plays center on the first line with Joe Crehore and Art Noyes on the wings. Up to the B.U. game the line had averaged 10 points a game.

Quintet Takes Five in a Row

Floyd Wilson, freshman basketball coach is constantly amazed by his team, which has won five in a row. "No individual stars, but they're great as a team," he says. Captain Warren Kantrowitz, Harold Downey, and Johy Van Doren have scored well in the team's last two victories, against Tufts and B.C.

Track Team Wins Two

Norman Bruck, freshman sprinter not only crushes his teammates and opposition, but has had the audacity to better the varsity's times too. Captain Al Wills, who has done a 4:36 mile, and Dave Alpers, who can break 50 in the 440, have also helped the Yardlings in their two easy wins over B.C. and B.U.

Bruck ran well in the K. of C. fifty yard dash, while Rob Morrison, and Alpers looked impressive on the mile relay team. Bob Blake has high jumped well, and football player Terry Cheek threw the shot over 42 feet against B.C.

Swimmers Undefeated

The freshman swimming has Dave Hawkins and two straight wins. Havkins, Australian champion and Olympic star, has already broken the breaststroke record, and Bill Brooks's team has beaten M.I.T. and Brookline High.
