That call to Wellesley will have to wait, and pay phones will be in constant operation for the next few days as an acute cable shortage has held up phone installation in University dormitories.
The New England Telephone and Telegraph Company, beseiged with applications for instruments has put many students on a waiting list due to a lack of installation facilities.
"We hope to have most of the phones put in soon," a service representative said, "but we just aren't getting in enough material."
