A crippled Crimson track team and a greatly improved Boston University squad will face each other in the Stadium today in what should be one of the best meets of the year. Holy Cross will also compete, but doesn't figure to be an important threat. The freshmen, meanwhile, will be favored to win their third straight against Exeter this afternoon at Exeter.
B.U. has its best team in recent years, while the Crimson will be seriously weakened by the loss of both Captain Bill Geick and top hurdler Charle Durakis. All this points to a Terrier win, but, as coach Bill McCurdy stated yesterday, "With top performances, we'll be able to win."
Top New England Performers
The Terriers are bringing several of New England's top track men into the Stadium today. Johnny Kelley will be a heavy favorite in both the mile and two mile. The small B.U. sophomore turned in a 4:17 mile against Brown last week; then followed with a 9:52 two mile performance one hour later.
Best race of the day will probably be the 880 in which "Wee Willie" Smith, Terrier freshman, will be out to get even with the Crimson's Ronnie Berman for an indoor 600 defeat this winter. Smith has already turned in a 1:54.7 half this year. Berman, however, looked very good against Rhode Island last week with a time of 1:57.4.
Cliff Blair and Irv Black will both be out to break collegiate hammer records in addition to scoring points for the Terriers in the other weight events.
Exeter, meanwhile, is expected to be only a slight threat to the Yardlings' undefeated streak. The freshmen will be without the services of top distance man Dudley Uphoff, who sustained a leg injury last week.
