Nancy Barrow '53 of Manhasset, L.I. and Bertram Hall edged out Dele Gilmore '53 by 18 votes Wednesday, to become the next President of the Annex Student Government Association. The winners were announced yesterday afternoon at a mans meeting of Radcliffe students in Agassiz, and will take office later this month.
So close was Miss Barrow's margin that a shift of three first place ballots would have changed the effect of the preferential vote. The final total gave Barrow 1,054. Gilmore 1,066. Holly Walker $10, Betsy Brown 651, and Ann Sears 545. Miss Gilmore was the second girl in Radcliffe history to carry on a fall-scale election campaign, the other being departing president Maryalice McArdle '52.
The slight margin which characterized the contest for the top position was not evident in the other elections: Gracia Taketa '53 was elected vice-president; Nancy Fisher '54, secretary; Peggy Brown '54, treasurer; Betty Anne Ellers 54 sub-treasurer; Betsy Ross 55, sophomore member; Lois Ann Dickson '54, NSA delegate, NSA alternate. Cynthia Crawford '55. NSA treasurer, Mary Sayre '54.
According to figures released by Miss McArdle the vote represented more than 72 percent of the Annex student body, a number slightly below last year's record tally. The difference in the two years is represented by the decline in commuter vote, last year strong for Miss McArdle. Only 125 commuters voted this year as opposed to over 200 in 1951.
Computation of the vote was accomplished in record time with only four people present at the final calculation: Miss McArdle, Elizabeth Tucker '52, Patsy Arens '54, and Elizabeth Biber '52.
