Gold Schedule Begins Sunday With Practice Round Against Virginia U.

After practicing for the past two weeks at Dillon Field House, the varsity gold team will take to the outdoors for the first time Sunday when it begins its annual spring tour in Charlottesville, Virginia. The group will be led by Captain Paul Weissman during the trip, since Coach Bill Richart cannot leave Cambridge.

The schedule includes practice rounds with the University of Virginia Sunday and Monday, an official match with the Cavaliers Tuesday, informal workouts at Pinehurst, N.C., the next two days, and a final contest at Durham, N.C., against Duke.

Those going south include Jack Brophy, Bill Bridges, Phil Guarino, John Sears, Bill Rydell, and letterman Dave Hedberg.

The team boasts three other lettermen, Dusty Burke, Bill Timpson, and Mitch Rosenholtz, who will not make the trip. Along with Weissman and Herberg, they are exempt from the varsity's qualifying round, which will take place at the Dedham Country Club after the vacation.

These five will automatically receive top ranking on the ladder, with the rest of the team strung out according to their qualifying scores. These seedlings will be only temporary, however, as frequent challenge matches will take place during the remainder of the season.

Bill Richart's golfers took fifth in a field of 16 at last year's Eastern Intercollegiate Golf Association Tournament.
