Yale college officials are considering a plan to permit students to type their examinations.

The issue arose after the Yale Daily News ran an editorial urging consideration of the plan because "there is an increasingly large portion of students whose literacy is directly dependent on the presence of typewriter keys...."

There is no principle involved that might lead to disapproval, the deans said, "it is merely a question of expediency; the problem would be finding rooms (to accommodate students who want to type their exams)."
