A State Department survey this week lists the University as one of the five major centers of Russian research.
The survey also disclosed that the volume of scholarly research on the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe in the United States universities and colleges is now at an all-time high.
About 500 studies on Russia and over 100 dealing with other Eastern European countries are now in progress. Soviet foreign policy and economics make up the most frequent areas of research.
Columbia, Syracuse, California, and Yale were also listed as major centers. Studies are not confined to these five universities, however, for the survey also includes such schools as Princeton, Duke, Rutgers, and Colgate.
