Brown Herald Endorses Stevenson; Eisenhower Wins Dartmouth Poll

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Brown Daily Herald, undergraduate newspaper of Brown University, yesterday announced its endorsement of Adlai Stevenson for President, commenting that Stevenson's "approach is freshening; his stands are clear . . . he has refused to underestimate the intelligence of the American people."

The announcement came in an editorial by six senior editors who also slashed at Eisenhower's "shameful compromise" with his party's illiberal elements, and said that since Chicago, Eisenhower's pronouncements have been "a distinct disappointment."

Positive Foreign Policy

Agreeing with Stevenson on his stand on the Taft-Hartley law, and complimenting his "positive foreign policy," the Daily Herald noted that "communism is our single remaining danger," but that control methods advocated by Stevenson's opponents were comparable to "firing shotguns into a crowd."

At the same time, The Dartmouth revealed that Dartmouth faculty members favored General Eisenhower 73 to 47 in a poll conducted Sunday. The student body, late last week, had indicated strong pre-Eisenhower support. The final total showed Eisenhower almost a 3 to 1 choice by the students, although half of those supporting him expressed the belief that Stevenson would win the election.
