Crimson Rallies, Defeats Springfield

Here's how Springfield's Angelo Insalaco (26) burst through the Crimson's left tackle during the second quarter to dash 55 yards for the game's first touchdown. In the first picture Insalaco is heading for the line while tackle Bob Stargel (76), guard Eli Manos (63), and end Don Cass (85) try to close in on him. In the foreground end Paul Crowley (83) is being taken out of the play.

The hole has been opened and Insalaco is in the process of going through it in the second picture. Stargel, Manos, and Cass have been left behind. Crowley seem to have a clear shot at the ball-carrier, but perspective makes the two appear closer together than they actually were. John Culver (34), line backer on the left side, is being blocked away from the play in the foreground of this shot, while Springfield's center Paul Ryan (50) circles behind the line.

By the third picture Insalaco is off into the Crimson secondary. Red Lewis (51), right side backer up, is about to hit the ground after being taken out of the play. Ryan is about to cut down guard Joe Shaw (60). Left halfback John Tulenko (10) is being blocked out, but right half Art French (80) is coming in fast.

French didn't get there in time. He is shown in the fourth picture behind Insalaco as Springfield end Dave Ritter (82) prepares to knock safety man Red Wylie (only helmet visible) away from the carrier. In the last picture Insalaco is out in the clear.

A Springfield lineman gets a strong portion of hip and shoulder in the picture above. This sort of protection didn't have any momentous results, for tailback Dick Clasby (40) couldn't find a receiver and ended up running the ball. In the picture below Captain Carroll Lowenstein also seems to be getting good protection, both from his backs and linemen. Center Buddy Lemay is circling around to block.

A Springfield player is shown making a desperate attempt to tackle wingback Warren Wylie (11) in the picture below that Wylie had just caught a pass from Lowenstein in the closing minutes of the first half. He managed to elude the man grabbing for him, but a moment later was piled up on the Springfield seven yard line. The Crimson was unable to get in any more plays in the half, which ended in a welter of confusion as the locals tried to get a time-out called.
