Damages Small in Fire at Harkness

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Smoke attracted fire engines and fire engines attracted a crowd when a grease fire broke out in Harkness Commons yesterday.

Although the smoke never turned into a blaze, the crowd, mostly composed of graduate students, saw at least some action.

Firemen raised a ladder against the kitchen wall, climbed up with axes and fire extinguishers, entered through the roof, and then quickly extinguished the blaze.

The burning grease caused to damage, Walter J. Dennis, steward, reported later and there was no interruption in the usual service of the dining hall.
