Freshman right-hander John Arnold could last only six innings against his former Andover teammates in a 9 to 8 slugfest which the Yard nine lost at Andover yesterday. Arnold seemed strong in the first two innings, but began to falter thereafter, and finally had to be replaced by Pat Groper in the sixth.
Even Groper was unable to hold the prep school's attack: John Semmelmeyer had to finish up the game.
The '54 nine collected all its runs in the first three innings, while holding Andover scoreless. Practically everyone was hitting: George Donovan, who hasn't been connecting solidly all year, hit two long singles; first baseman Jim Kiggin lined a well hit ball past the outfied for a three-run homer, and shortstop Ed Krinsky hit a triple.
Then Andover found itself and scored repeatedly, as the Crimson's pitching collapsed. Both teams made few errors, and both used three pitchers.
