Approximately 3,000 graduating seniors of public and private secondary schools have made application for admission to Harvard for next fall. Admission slips have all been mailed out, but the size of the class of '55 has not yet been revealed.
The number of applicants is slightly large than that of last year, but a steady increase in the number of applications received has been apparent for several years. A University spokesman said yesterday that this may be due to a better selling system of Harvard Clubs. Since nearly all applicants are below draft age, the military situation has not affected their numbers.
About half of the applicants also requested scholarships. This too is a normal increase over past years.
