Benjamin Reifel 2 P.A. of Erwin, South Dakota was awarded one of the 53 John Hay Whitney "opportunity" fellowships to continue his graduate studies here, the Whitney Foundation announced yesterday.

The awards are made each year "to American citizens of exceptional promise who, because of arbitrary barriers, such as race, cultural background, or region of residence, have not had the fullest opportunity to develope their abilities."
