Law Men Hear Dever

It costs $550,000 to become Governor of Massachusetts, Governor Paul A. Dever told 100 members of the Law School Democratic Club yesterday during a speech emphasizing the unique qualifications of lawyers for politics.

He said lawyers are particularly fitted for a political life because their training gives them a better political background than that offered by other professions.

Dever stated also that a man in public office should formulate his decisions based on his own judgment rather than be guided by the demands of his constituents.

Gambling in Massachusetts is limited to "just a few bookies" the Governor also asserted, and the state will probably not legalize gambling. He added that the Senate crime investigation had distracted too much public attention from the greater issue of preparedness.
