"The science but not the art" of engineering is what the Department of Engineering Sciences and Applied Physics strives to instill in its few concentrators.
And it feels its students must put in perhaps more work than those in any other department. Honors concentrators must take 19 half-courses in the field, non-honors men only 13. There is little room for picking and choosing. Most concentrators find they must carry five courses for at least three terms.
Since most courses are shared with graduate students, competition is heavy; but the quality of instruction and high degree of contact with faculty case the road a bit. Tutorial, however, is absent.
E. S. & A. P. trains men for graduate work or industrial training programs, although not quite preparing them for high-salaried technical work.
