Track Team Tops B.C., 101-39, With 5 Stars in South

While Al Wilson was finishing second with the discus and a mile relay quartet was taking fourth place in the annual southern relays in Birmingham Saturday, the remaining members of the Crimson track team easily swamped Boston College at Soldiers Field, 101 to 39.

Wilson's heave of 155 feet, 1/2 inch was ten feet shorter than that of Auburn's Jim Dillion. Mile relayers Ed Grutzner, John Packard, Tom McGrath, and Ronnie Berman finished behind Ohio State, Louisiana State, and Yale.

In the Stadium the Crimson took first place in 12 of the 16 events. Bob Curran threw the hammer 154 feet, 1/2 inch and Phil Pratt, in Wilson's absence, took the discus event. Bob Mcllo won the pole vault easily and finished second to Bill Geick in the broad jump.

Charlie Durakis captured both hurdles events, and Dick Weiskopf took the 100 but lost the 220 to B. C,'s Irv Howe, who also ran away with the quarter-mile. Bill Montague won the half-mile run, while Dick White edged Dave Gregory in the two-mile.

'54 Track Beats Andover

Clean sweeps in the 440, pole vault, and high jumps gave the freshman track team the necessary points to edge out Phillips Academy, 66 to 60, at Andover in the first away meet of the year. Pete Dow, with wins in both the 100 and 220, and Gil Murray, with a first and a second were the top Crimson scorers.
