Smith Gets Fifth Spot Tie in NAA Epee Competition

Jack Smith, the Crimson's lone entrant, tied for fifth place in the epee division of the N.C.A.A. Fencing Championships at the University of Illinois, March 30 and 31th. Smith won 18 matches, but lost nine to tie with Paul Utterback of Navy, the Eastern Intercollegiate Champion.

Columbia, as expected, won the team championship, with Pennsylvania second, and N.Y.U. third.

Bad Leg Keeps Soliee Here

Captain-elect Eric Soliee, who had previously planned to accompany Smith, was unable to make the trip because of leg and knee injuries received at the Eastern Intercollegiate Championships last month. The other members of the team passed up the championship matches because of vacation and theses
