Kirkland and Leverett Houses ended in a tie for the House boxing championships last night, while Grays edged Holworthy and Straus South by one point in the freshman competition.
Jack Johnson of Leverett, in the above picture, is shown landing with a hard right on the face of Kirkland's Roger Hassid. Hassid, however, eventually came out the winner.
Kirkland and Leverett each had two individual champions and two runner ups. Charlie Weiss and John Pankey provided the two wins for the Deacons. The other Leverett winner was Ken Herlihy.
In the big match of the night, Dudley's Fred Ravreby won a close decision over Arnie Horween of Eliot in the unlimited.
Gerry Miller, also of Eliot, won a TKO over Dick Liu of the Deacons. Tom Butler of Dunster was the 155 pound winner in a wild slugfest with Sam Paschal of Leverett while Gene Shelton won an easy decision over Adams teammate, Henry Landau.
Grays won the freshman competition on the strength of Charlie Pisaturo's two round TKO over Lionel's Larry Cohen. "Chick" Chandler of Wigglesworth West, freshman wrestling captain, scored the only other TKO over Claude Rooton of Grays in the 165 pound class.
John Cooke of Holworthy won over George Kinnell. Phil Meyers, Dave Caliechio, and Al German were other winners.
