John Henry Lee '53, brilliant sophomore light weight from Newton Center, was yesterday elected to captain the 1951-52 varsity wrestling team. He succeeds David L. Smith.
Lee, who formerly captained his Exeter team and last year's Crimson freshmen, went undefeated in dual meet competition in his first varsity season. He missed one match because of an injury. Lee was also unbeaten as a freshman last year, going on to capture a New England A.A.U. championship which he will defend this Saturday at Quincy.
In the Eastern Intercollegiate tournament at Penn State last weekend, Lee lost in the semi-finals to the 1949 winner. He finished the tourney as third-ranking 123-pounder in the East, however, since the defending champion, Bob Gerebino of Syracuse, was forced to default because of a torn toe.
Lee expects to compete in the national intercollegiates one week from Saturday as well as the national A.A.U. tournament the following weekend.
