Gift for Hockey Rink Offered by Alumnus

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A wealthy alumnus is ready and willing to give $100,000 for the construction of a hockey rink at the College, the Boston Traveler reported yesterday afternoon. Will Cloney, Traveler college hockey reporter, noted this in his column and later told the CRIMSON that his information had been obtained at the recent Harvard Club dinner honoring the football squad.

At the dinner the College's need for a hockey rink was mentioned, and the alumnus, whose name Cloney would not reveal, said in a serious manner that he would be willing to give $100,000 for its construction. That sum has been estimated as the minimum cost of a simple outdoor rink.

Last organized movement for a Harvard rink was begun in the spring of 1950 when former hockey coach John Chase '28 gave $1,000 as the initial donation toward one. Chase later reported that his drive had met with little success.
