Visiting India Journalist Warns U.S. To Choose Allies in Asia With Care

S. Natarajian, editor of the Bombay Herald, said here yesterday that "there is genuine anxiety in my country as to whether the West is backing the wrong political horses." He added that Indians think some U.S. backed rulers like Synghman Rhee and Indo-China's Bao Dai are "the scum of Asia."

Natarajian is touring the United States with his wife to study American journalism. He visited the University yesterday.

"The American people should realize that foreign politics is new to us," he told the CRIMSON. "We are apt to make slight mistakes in policy now and then, but our attitude is not one of fence-sitting between East and West." He explained that India's trade relations with Red China are "purely business deals, just as Britain's are."

India will stop trade with Mao's government if the U.N. establishes sanctions against it." Natarajian said, "but not if the orders come from Washington alone."
