An unexpectedly long concert tour in Europe next spring will prevent conductor Pierre Monteux from accepting the post of Horatio Appleton Lamb music lecturer which was offered to him by the University.
The 76-year old conductor of the San Francisco Symphony had already prepared a history of music from its beginning to the time of Jean-Baptiste Lully, 17th century French composer.
Monteux told the CRIMSON yesterday, "I am very sorry to have to give up the lectures, but my agent has already made these foreign commitments. I hope to come to Harvard sometime to give some talks, but then of course I am 76."
